Infrastructure Strategic Planning Engineer Central Contra Costa Sanitary District, United States
Abstract Submission: The Envision sustainable infrastructure framework was launched in 2012 by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) to help communities around the world build sustainable, resilient, and equitable civil infrastructure. The William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery in Anchorage was the first completed project to use Envision and earned an Envision Gold Award in 2013. While there is no way of knowing the exact number of projects using or inspired by the framework, over 400 projects have registered to use ISI’s Envision verification process, which includes an independent, third-party review to confirm that the project meets the sustainability criteria outlined in the Envision framework. This growing use of the Envision framework prompted ISI to work with the Envision Review Board (ERB) to develop a resource to assist infrastructure owners in procuring Envision-related services. The ERB is a group of industry professionals who ensure the maintenance of interpretation and development of Envision. In that capacity, they also assist ISI with developing related to tools and resources. For this session, members of the ERB and ISI’s verification staff will outline the needs that prompted the “Guide to Procuring Sustainable Infrastructure Services,” and offer perspectives from both consulting firms and infrastructure owners who are integrating the Envision framework into a range of project types. The panel will discuss best practices throughout the procurement and project delivery process, provide examples of procurement language, and share real-world experience and examples of in embedding sustainability into projects.
Learning Objectives/Expected Outcome (Optional) : Explain how the Envision framework integrates throughout the project lifecycle. Share examples of how Envision has been included in the procurement process. Evaluate how sustainability requirements can enhance your procurement process and project outcomes.
