Dr. Ken Kunkel is leading the development of Atlas 15 Volume 2 which will provide future precipitation frequency estimates informed by climate models. As Lead Scientist for the National Climate Assessment Technical Support Unit, he directs the scientific support for all National Climate Assessment activities. Dr. Kunkel’s research has focused on historical climate variability and trends and on potential future change, particularly related to extreme events, such as heavy precipitation, heat waves, cold waves, and winter storms. He is currently a Senior Scientist at the North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies and Research Professor in the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at North Carolina State University.
