Dr. Mukesh Kumar is an Associate Professor of Hydrology and Water Resources at The University of Alabama. His research focuses on improving the understanding and prediction of hydrologic processes to better assess the impacts of climate and land-use changes on water quantity and quality. He conducts hypothesis testing through data analysis and applies physically-based models. Dr. Kumar has co-developed several open-source models, including PIHM, PIHMgis, FIHM, and SPAC, widely used in academia and government. He has directed over $1.25 million in funded research, published more than 35 peer-reviewed papers, and delivered 28 invited talks. His recognitions include the NSF CAREER Award, UCOWR Ph.D. Dissertation Award, and Outstanding Student Paper Award from AGU. In 2018, he received the Mahatma Gandhi Award for his contributions. Dr. Kumar holds a B.Tech from IIT Kanpur and a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University and was previously a faculty member at Duke University.
