Dr. Alan Heyvaert is a limnologist at the Desert Research Institute with professional experience in the fields of biogeochemistry, aquatic ecology and watershed management. He has developed applied research programs focused on the effective design of stormwater monitoring systems and on the performance evaluation of best management practices (BMPs). He was a principal investigator for the Lake Tahoe TMDL and founding co-chair of the Tahoe Science Advisory Council. As a biogeochemist and ecologist, he has directed many studies on nutrient and pollutant loadings to lakes, rivers and reservoirs in the western U.S. and South America.
