Derek Cavanaugh graduated from Sonoma State University with a B.S. in chemistry and began his career in the private sector in environmental, food, drink and product testing. He has experience both in air sampling and analysis as well as volatiles, semivolatiles, and metals in soil, water, foods and products. In addition, he has experience in method development in POPs including PFAS and has worked on high profile analysis of PFAS contaminated food products. Now, he works with the City of Santa Rosa in their environmental lab to ensure that treatment processes and effluent quality parameters are within control.
