Nigel is a retired Research Group Leader, who led the HydroEcological Engineering Advanced Decision Support research group in the Earth and Climate Sciences Group at Berkeley National Laboratory for 25 years. He still holds research faculty appointments at the University of California Berkeley and Merced campuses and at California State University, Fresno and has been a 35-year contractor/water quality specialist and affiliate of the US Bureau of Reclamation in Sacramento, California. Nigel remains active in water resource and water quality planning and management in California’s San Joaquin Valley with a particular emphasis on real-time salinity management. He is the author of multiple journal articles exploring the implementation of this concept. With his colleagues on the ASCE EWRI Watershed Council he has been exploring non-traditional TMDL approaches especially the inclusion of the social sciences and the concepts of diversity, equity, inclusivity and justice in next-generation TMDL methodologies.
