Assistant Professor
Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, United States
Dr. Mirko Musa is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. His research ranges from the physical modeling of water flows and the planning and monitoring of water infrastructure to sediment transport processes. His work is relevant to the maintenance and development of hydraulic structures such as dams or renewable energy infrastructures. He received his Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering from the University of Minnesota, where he conducted physical modeling at St. Anthony Falls Laboratory to study the effects of operating turbines on the local erodible bathymetry (local erosion-deposition) and non-locally on river morphodynamics (forced river instabilities). He was the recipient of the 2020 Best Dissertation Award in Physical Sciences and Engineering from the University of Minnesota Graduate School. He also received a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering at the University of Trento (Italy).
