Lei Yan is a research scientist at University of Wisconsin-Madison working on rainfall and flood hazard prediction in a warming climate. He completed his Ph.D. at Wuhan University in the department of Hydrology and Water Resources, focusing on the impacts of climate change and human activities on hydrometeorological extremes using statistical techniques. He then worked. as a postdoctoral research scientist at the Water Center at Columbia University, modeling and prediction of ENSO events using machine learning methods and its teleconnection with precipitation, renewable resources and other hydrometeorological extremes.
