Dr. Chao is currently serving as a Senior Research Scientist at the National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering. His research interests are in the area of Environmental Hydraulics and Computational Hydraulics, with a particular focus on surface hydrodynamics, water quality, chemical and oil spills, sediment transport, and environmental risk analysis for lakes, rivers, and coastal waters. He has developed several numerical models, including the CCHE water quality and pollutant transport model, a 3D multi-level turbulence tidal model, an oil spill model, and a heat transport model.
