Dr. Hemant Chowdhary is a Hydrologist and Vice-President with Verisk Analytics, a global company specializing in natural catastrophe risk modeling. He holds a PhD from the Louisiana State University in civil engineering with a specialization in water resources, an MS in technology from the Indian Institute of Technology. His current research includes flood risk modeling at very large, regional and continental scales. Hemant is leading a significant effort of mapping flood risk at a very high spatial resolution for as many as 20 countries including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Republic of Ireland, Poland, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, among others. These flood models facilitate underwriting, portfolio management, and reinsurance treaties. Detailed hazard severities and property loss estimation at millions of properties can be accomplished within hours. These models also include country-wide flood maps, and are climate-ready, representing the near present climate.
