Yifan is now a professor in river engineering at Wuhan University, China. He is a recipient of the NSFC Grant for Excellent Young Scientist Overseas. Before that, Yifan was a lecturer/assistant professor in hydraulic engineering at the University of Waikato, a postdoc researcher at the University of Auckland, and a civil/water engineer at Wellington Water. Yifan got his PhD in civil engineering from the University of Auckland and ME and BE from Hohai University, China. The hybrid study and work experience in both developed and developing worlds grant Yifan a unique vision of various approaches to managing water resources and water-related hazards while maintaining a good balance between human society and the nature.
