Professor
University of Minnesota, United States
Dr. Michele Guala is a Professor in Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering at University of Minnesota. He is interested in the physical mechanisms governing basic and environmental fluid mechanics. His research activities cover a wide range of scales and phenomena, from geophysical flows down to vortex dynamics and particle-turbulence interactions, and relate to many different environments, including rivers, lakes, and the atmospheric surface layer. As an experimentalist, he contributes to development of novel measuring techniques and statistical tools for data analysis, for both wind tunnel and field work. His current research at the St Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) is on wall turbulence, snow settling, and fluvial morphodynamics. More applied projects include sediment bypass strategies for hydropower dams, and design and optimization of hydrokinetic devices and wind turbines for sustainable energy production.
